For patients suffering from ectatic disorders like keratoconus, the natural cornea becomes dangerously thin and bulges outward. Inserting this extra biologic tissue does not add viable corneal tissue as many may believe. The tissue in CTAK’s have been gamma radiated away and what is left is the physically integrity of the tissue- leaving behind no living tissue.

CTAK also poses for issues later on when one chooses to do scans on the eye and get corneal reconstruction because the irregularity of the cornea caused by the CTAK.
