Keratoconus is usually treated by corneal crosslinking that helps freeze the cornea in place, however this does not stop the cornea come back to a close to normal vision. Our CREATE protocol uses the epithelium to help rebuild the shape of the cornea as it compensates for the irregularity from the keratoconus. When we have the data from the irregularity then we know how to control the right amount of laser correction needed to improve the vision.
This patient had a stronger cornea bed on their left eye while their right eye was weaker. As a result we only reshaped the corneas and proceeded to stop the progression with the left eye with our CREATE protocol followed by crosslinking on both eyes.
