Keratoconus is often treated with corneal cross-linking where riboflavin is used and activated under UV light to stop the progression but does not correct vision. This video shows the way in which trans-epithelial topography guided laser followed by cross-linking, the CREATE+CXL Protocol, is used to potentially restore one’s vision close to normal.
This patient is only 19 years old and wanted to get treatment done before the disease progressed beyond control. Early diagnosis is key to handling treatment for Keratoconus. Because of this patient’s proactiveness, they were able to explore topography guided laser as a solution rather than committing to scleral lenses or even the last resort option, a cornea transplant.
