This patient suffered from myopia which is often referred to as nearsightedness and had received LASIK to help reshape the cornea and potentially improve their vision. Myopia occurs when the cornea is slightly not uniform and the flight that coming in the cornea does not fully reach the end of the retina which causes the distortion of things being far away. Since little light in coming in and being focused, the things closer that need little light to be focused, are the only objects that are able to be seen. The opposite is true for hyperopia, where the cornea lets too much light in reaching past the retina causing a greater clarity for things that are farther away.
