PTK (Phototherapeutic Keratectomy) is a precise laser eye surgery using an excimer laser to smooth the cornea’s surface by removing superficial scars, irregularities, and certain dystrophies, improving vision and treating conditions like recurrent corneal erosions. Performed with numbing drops, the laser vaporizes thin layers of damaged tissue, followed by a bandage contact lens for healing, offering a less invasive alternative to corneal transplants for some patients. Recovery involves anti-inflammatory drops and managing temporary light sensitivity, dryness, and halos.
